At Magnolia Modern Dentistry, we use x-rays to help give us an inside look at what is going on in your mouth. X-rays see beyond what the naked eye can see, giving our dentists a clear picture of your overall oral health. While we offer standard dental x-rays, as most dentists do, we also offer digital radiography or digital x-rays as a courtesy to our patients.
Why Choose Digital X-rays
We are proud to give our patients the option to choose digital x-rays, should you desire. Either type of x-ray, whether digital or standard, helps us get a closer look inside your mouth. Digital x-rays have a few advantages, though. They allow us to manipulate the pictures so that we can get an even better look inside your mouth.
Our staff receives the images from your x-rays instantly on our computer. Once there, we can zoom into certain areas of the images, getting an even closer look at what is going on inside your mouth. This eliminates the need to take further x-rays, should we find a problem area that needs further inspection with a standard x-ray.
Many of our patients choose digital x-rays because of the lower amount of radiation they emit. In many cases, patients are exposed to 90 percent less radiation than they would with standard x-rays. While you only have dental x-rays done once a year, any time you can choose a lower radiation option, you benefit.
Digital X-rays are Easy to Share
One of the reasons our staff prefer digital x-rays is the ability to share them easily. Whether you need a copy of your own x-rays or you need to send them to a specialist, we can do it instantly. Since the images are on our computer, we can send them to the recommended specialist before you even make an appointment. This can help speed the process along, as you become a new patient at a specialist.
You do not have to worry about coming in to get copies of your images and lugging them around. You also do not have to worry about losing the images – we always have a copy on our hard drive that we can easily share, should you need us to.
Reasons you May Need X-Rays
We typically take x-rays of your mouth once a year. This gives us a good idea if anything has changed in your mouth since the previous year. With digital x-rays, we can compare the images side-by-side and determine what may have changed, if anything.
If you have any trouble spots or we notice any suspicious areas during our exam, though, we may recommend more frequent x-rays. We do this as a precaution to ensure that you are receiving the best oral health care possible and that we catch any issues in its earliest phases.
