Same Day CEREC® Crowns
Do you need dental crowns but do not have much time to spend in the dental office? At Magnolia Modern Dentistry, we have a great solution – CEREC crowns. CEREC stands for Chairside, Economical, Restorations, Esthetic, and Ceramic Crowns. In short, they are crowns that we can create and place in your mouth all in one day, reducing the amount of time that you have to spend at the dentist.
How you Can Get Crowns in One Day
Today’s technology makes it possible for us to take impressions and create a crown right in our office with the CEREC program. The impressions we take for CEREC are digital. We then use the CEREC program to create the crown while you wait. It is an effective way to get tooth restorations quickly.
While the program creates your crown, our dentists will prepare the tooth or teeth to receive the crown. This may mean removing some of the tooth’s enamel or filing the tooth down slightly. The exact work we must do depends on the reason that you need the crown. An uneven tooth, for example, must be filed down in order for the crown to have a flat surface to adhere to.
Once the crown is ready, our dentists place it in your mouth and evaluate the situation. We make sure you feel comfortable with it in your mouth and that you like how it looks. We may make some minor adjustments and once we are happy with everything, we make the crown a permanent part of your mouth.
Preparing for CEREC
We do want you to know that you should have an exam before deciding on CEREC. If there are any underlying issues, we will need to treat them first. A few of the most common examples include gum disease and tooth decay. Any issues that could interfere with the success of the dental crown should be addressed first to ensure optimal oral health. If your oral health is in good condition, you do not have to do anything to prepare for the dental crown.
How Dental Crowns Help
Dental crowns are typically the last resort before we extract the tooth. Our goal is always to keep your natural teeth as long as possible. If your tooth became weak, damaged, or decayed, you lose some of its stability. Filing down the enamel, but keeping the tooth’s roots in place helps keep the integrity of your teeth intact, and this allows your jawbone to have the stimulation it needs to keep growing even as you age.
